Paper Panda started in 2010, with Louise Firchau making typographical lyrical papercuts from recycled paper. Louise studied typography at university and it became an obsession. "There is nothing more satisfying than creating a piece of graphic art using amazing fonts and hand cutting it so perfectly that no matter what the size it looks like it's been printed."
Since then PP has grown significantly and now has a number of very distinct styles and a multitude of merchandise so that everyone can have a piece of the original bear.
The 'Starry Night' series is based around foxes, badgers, hares and stags in woodland scenes, with swirly skies and ivy clad surroundings.
The 'Storybook' series (and other gothic darkness) is a cute collaboration between Louise and her husband, Ryan. Louise tells Ryan what to draw with a waggy, pointy finger over his shoulder and only when he gets it perfectly right she cuts it out of paper. It's a good bit of teamwork.
The 'Woodland Friends' series of sketches and papercuts feature a lovable bunch of characters, in quite a naive style, but fun and quirky. They are inspired by Quarwood, where the Panda family lived in a little cottage in the Cotswolds surrounded by animals and woodland life and have developed into a series of motivational sketches as well as a children's story book. "Have you had a peep? Isn't it wonderful?! I loved writing it, and Ryan has done a marvellous job digitally colouring my illustrations, it looks so pretty! I'm super proud of it!"
Paper Panda has it's own extensive range of giftware that can be found in the online shop including an amazing 'Guest Artist' section, as well as it's own Papercutting Facebook group.
Products are created either in house, or by small UK businesses wherever possible. Louise has previously won 'Best Artist in the Cotswolds' award twice, and has taught thousands of people to papercut through workshops, papercutting books, her best selling Papercutting Kit (available in the shop) and numerous online forums.
